THE DISHES CREATED ARE SERVED STRAIGHT FROM THE HEARTS OF THE CHEFS, A LOVE SONG TO THE REGION, AND THE VIBRANT CONNECTION TO ITS PRE-HISPANIC ROOTS. IF FOOD IS OAXACA'S HEART, THEN MEZCAL IS ITS SOUL. THIS SPIRIT, CREATED THROUGH PROCESSES AND TRADITIONS HANDED DOWN OVER GENERATIONS, IS A RITUAL UNTO ITSELF. THE NUANCES OF EACH SIP AN HOMAGE TO ITS TERROIR AND VARIETAL. SUN, WIND, EARTH AND SMOKE UNITE IN ITS CREATION, AND WE COULD NOT VISIT OAXACA WITHOUT A TRIP TO A PALENQUE. WE WILL JOURNEY TO MEET ITS CREATORS, VISIT THE LAND WHERE IT'S GROWN, AND LEARN ABOUT THE PRODUCTION PROCESS FIRSTHAND FROM THE PRODUCERS WHO USHER EACH PLANT INTO MATURITY AMONGST THE HILLS OF OAXACA.

OUTINGS

OUR JOURNEYS IN OAXACA WILL TAKE US TO THE PREHISTORIC ZAPOTEC RUINS OF MONTE ALBAN, AND THE NATURALLY OCCURRING SALT-WATER POOL AND WATERFALL FORMATIONS OF HIERVE EL AGUA. HIERVE EL AGUA IS PERCHED UPON CLIFFS OVERLOOKING THE SURROUNDING VALLEY, OFFERING A STUNNING BIRDS-EYE VIEW OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. THE WATERS OF HIERVE EL AGUA ARE SAID TO HAVE HEALING PROPERTIES AND ARE PERFECT FOR A DIP AND MOMENT OF RESTORATION. MONTE ALBAN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE OF THE VALLEY OF OAXACA, AND IT IS HERE THAT WE WILL EXPLORE THE REMAINS OF ANCIENT TEMPLES, BALL-COURTS AND TOMBS. THE SURROUNDING HILLS ARE A MAJESTIC VISTA OF CALM AND TRANSCENDENT BEAUTY.

YOUR GUIDES:

MARIYAM NAYERI

Mariyam Nayeri is a chef and movement teacher who is passionate about empowering others to live their most vibrant and full lives. Her connection to food stems from a childhood spent in her grandmother’s kitchen learning how to make tortillas and gathering around a table with her large Mexican family. Her exploration of her passions took her into several restaurants and kitchens in New York City and London, and through a 200- hour Yoga certification at her beloved yoga studio Sacred in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. She finds the most connected version of herself while creating food, teaching classes or dancing with her children. She is an accredited health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and teaches weekly yoga and cooking classes locally, in her hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

For as long as she can recall, movement has been her magic balm. Whether in a dance class or on a yoga mat, there's nothing that she finds more powerful, transformative and healing. It is where her soul resides. As a teacher, she endeavors to share this passion wholeheartedly. Expect a class that gently leads you to your edge with an alchemy of precise physical guidance, intuitive sequencing, with space to breathe, grow and find your rhythm.

KAYLA GONZALEZ

Kayla is a born and raised Milwaukee native, and Latina that loves to travel, create art with her business Clay Creations by Kayla, and practice and offer yoga with her business Resilient Joy. In this life she has been a biology teacher abroad and worked in the nonprofit sector across Milwaukee in search of her passion and purpose–her Dharma. No matter what field she pursued, she knew that at the root of it all, her dream is to build meaningful relationships, and provide space for joy and healing in this life. Her dreams became a reality as she launched her businesses and received her RYT-500 certification focusing on Intuitive Wisdom and Holistic Psychology.

Kayla hopes that as she shares joy, self expression, and healing through art and yoga, others find that authentically within themselves as well.
