about/why::
For as long as I can recall, movement has been my magic balm. Whether in a dance class or on a yoga mat, there's nothing that I find more powerful, transformative and healing. It is where my soul resides.
Yoga is a practice that I discovered in my mid-twenties, that, like many of us, held me through a dark night of the soul, and began a chapter of healing in my life. I was heartbroken, lonely, and overwhelmed by the energy and frenetic pace of living in New York. I was seeking a practice that would help me to create more space, and navigate the stress, the sadness and isolation that I was navigating.
I made my way into a hot yoga room, and 90 minutes later, I was clear- headed, blissful, and felt just a little more whole, a little bit more connected with myself. This set me on a path to healing for which I am infinitely grateful. I fell in love with the flow and rhythm of vinyasa; the peaks and valleys, the music and the movement, and the space offered to sweat through it all with tenderness and joy. My practice also reconnected me to a passion for movement that was ignited in my childhood. Movement is a powerful medicine that has held me for so long, and there is no other space that I feel more connected, grounded and free. It was then that I knew I had to share this medicine with others.
Being able to guide others through movement and healing is a sacred privilege, and I am honored to be able to do. Expect a class that gently leads you to your edge with an alchemy of precise guidance, intuitive sequencing, and lighthearted humor. I am infinitely grateful for the guidance of my teachers, the South Asian lineage from which yoga comes, my students and my ancestors, and we walk this path together. I endeavor to lead a class that leaves students feeling empowered, energized, and walking on air with a song in their hearts.
